Vision4 Women has held three Phuhla leadership workshops for girls in Gr 10-12 in 2026.
The one-day workshop includes all girls on the mentorship programme and cover a wide range of subjects. Topics covered this year included:
- Grade 10: Becoming the girl I am proud of
- Grade 11: Career clarity and decision making
- Grade 12: Managing pressure and resilience
- All grades: Basic business skills
Other workshop topics include how to handle peer pressure, how to write a CV, cyber-security and other issues related to positive youth development.
Phuhla means “to flourish or blossom”, hence the workshops focus on developing raw potential into actionable leadership skills.
It is part of our holistic youth development programme that mentors high school girls from under-resourced areas. The programme has a strong focus on values, ethics and social responsibility, to build the leaders of tomorrow in business and civic life.
The mentorship programme runs over a calendar year and has various activities and components, with Phuhla Workshops among them.
The girls attended three workshops held at Mendi Arts Centre in New Brighton in March, April and June. The March workshop was the largest, at 220 girls, with lower numbers in June (128 girls), due to preparation for mid-year school exams. No Grade 12 girls attended the June event.
Vision4 Women thanks the Rotary Club of Port Elizabeth for its financial contribution, which was used towards event hire as well as stationery packs for the 220 girls who attended the March workshop. Other expenses included catering (sandwiches, fruit and lunch) and transport.
Although the full Vision4 Women mentorship programme calls for several hundred thousand rand in financial support per year any donation, small or big, is welcomed with gratitude. Every rand makes a difference.
